Khangchendzonga State University

The sole state university in Sikkim, KHANGCHENDZONGA STATE UNIVERSITY, SIKKIM (ERSTWHILE SIKKIM STATE institution), was founded in response to the aspirations of prospective students in Sikkim and the North East for a teaching-intensive, affiliated institution. Act No. 5 of 2003, which was approved by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, created the Sikkim State University. On the other hand, the university only started to operate in 2018. Act number 16 of 2021, enacted by the Sikkim State Legislative Assembly, changed the name of the university from Sikkim State University to Khangchendzonga State University, Sikkim. The University Grants Commission informed the same on March 29, 2022, by F No. 9-19/2018(CPP-I/PU).

Courses Offered

The university now offers five programs: an MA in Nepali (40 seats) under the School of Languages and Literature, and an MA in Sanskrit, Limboo, Lepcha, and Bhutia (20 seats each).
